Writers Inspiring Change feature author: Todor Bombov

Updated: Mar 20, 2023

I was born in 1959 in a workers’ family and ever since I’m living in Varna city, Bulgaria. I’m a customs officer with already 27 years length of service. Now, I’m a senior officer in Varna Customs. I

have studied two high educations, economics and computer technologies in Varna’s Higher Schools.

I’ve never thought to be a writer. I’ve just always loved books. Still, in my early childhood, I loved the reading, maybe because I was very curious boy. At the age of 7 or 8 years old, I wrote my first verses. And when I began my studies in Varna’s Higher Institute for National Economy, I made my first literary attempts in the poetry genre. I just felt the necessity to put on the white paper all my thrills and agitations in my mind. In 1981, when I began my studies in Varna’s Higher Institute for National Economy I doubted the socialist system in which I lived. Until the end of my studies in 1985, I had already begun writing the main work of my life, Socialism Is Dead! Long Live Socialism!, which is a philosophical, economical and political work, a scientific analyses of the ex “socialist” system in East Europe; it was published in 2016 in the United States. The conclusions by this book put me in mind to write the sci-fi novel Homo Cosmicus. But to write Of Rats and Men story, it was spontaneous and unexpected. These are the three books I succeeded to publish until now.

My books send a message! I’m trying to inspire in the people all over the world that there exists alternative of the contemporary decadent world! I do that in the scientific book The Socialism directly, in the science fiction books Homo Cosmicus and The Rats – indirectly. I offer decisions how this world to become a better place of living, how people could live in social equality and social justice – without classes of rich and poor. Otherwise – Armageddon is coming!

The readers, as far as I have them, say good words, they like my books. I’m very glad to know that. Readers’ Favorite reviewers gave me 5 stars reviews. One of them, Stephen Fisher, says that my writing “could easily rival the works of Robert Heinlein and H.G. Wells”! This is high honour and a prize for me!

As I already said above, the conclusions by the scientific work Socialism Is Dead! Long Live Socialism! led me to the thought to write in some popular form about that perfect society which could be created after some centuries on the Earth if its beginning would be put in our days. The concrete occasion was provoked by the CNN global contest “What vision do you have on the development of the world after 30 years?” So, writing sci-fi is not my underlying style and main focus. But I love so much of this genre. My science fiction is more science and less fiction.

I have some ideas about next my books – a sci-fi again as well as a scientific again.
