The purpose of the book titled “The Smiling Colors” is to allow Pre-k through fifth grade children to recognize their colors. This book will give the children the ability to see an object and be able to tell the correct color name associated with it. Parents, please help assist your children with any assignments that they may have.

About the author

iWIC interview with Moneshia Dashiell
iWIC: What inspired you to write?
Writing was born out of my calling to serve. As an educator, psychologist, and Christian education leader. I have witnessed the transformative power of words and how they can uplift, inform, and heal.
My inspiration stems from the children I have taught, the families I have supported, and the communities that I have shaped. Writing became my tool not only to educate, but to preserve legacy, honor truth and amplify the voices of those too often unheard.
Every book I have authored carries the weight of purpose, whether celebrating milestones like the 2023 and 2024 President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, or simply convey the dignity of early childhood development, authoring children’s books, for me is ministry.

Who or what inspired you?
My greatest inspiration comes from the pillars of faith, resilience, and vision that have shaped our history, and my own journey. I have drawn immense strength from figures like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, and Mahalia Jackson whose courage and conviction lit a path for generations. I am also inspired by the children I have taught, their curiosity, their potential, their need to be seen. I am deeply inspired by my faith. It has been my compass through education, psychology, and service.
Every title I have carried, from Christian educator to presidential recipient, has been guided by a calling greater than myself: to serve, uplift and leave a legacy that honors those who have come before me.
What do you hope to inspire with your writing?
Through my writing, I hope to ignite purpose, awaken potential, and preserve truth. I want readers, especially young children and future leaders, to feel seen, valued, and empowered to rise beyond limitations. My words are meant to carry not just knowledge but hope and honor. Whether I am reflecting on faith, child development, or community service, I write to affirm that every life carries significance, and every act of kindness builds legacy.
Ultimately, I hope my writing becomes a torch, passing light from one generation to the next.
What is the back story to your book titled, The Smiling Colors?
The Smiling Colors was born from a moment of reflection, when I saw the joy, resilience, and brilliance shining through the eyes of the children I have taught and the communities I have served. The title itself is symbolic: every color represents a story, a heritage, a voice. When those colors smile, it means they have been acknowledged, uplifted, and empowered the book came about as a tribute to diversity in learning, the vibrance of cultural identity, and the power of early childhood education.
I wanted to create something that did not just teach but celebrate the richness of every child’s experience. At its heart, The Smiling Colors is an affirmation that every child, regardless of their background, deserves to thrive in full colors.
