Our review of Beyond Impact

Jane Bourgo has penned a clever and compelling novel in Beyond Impact. At its centre is Willow, a newly graduated young orphan whose kidnapping sets off a chain of unexpected events. Her captors, however, have no idea just how resourceful and spirited she is. Willow manages to escape not once but twice—though not without enduring real hardship.

The plot deepens when her guardian, her uncle, is also abducted. Meanwhile, at the time of Willow’s first kidnapping, another young woman—Campbell—happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. A head-on collision with the kidnappers’ vehicle leaves her clinically dead three times, only to be revived or “sent back” to fulfil a destiny she doesn’t yet understand.

Without giving away spoilers, the Canadian police soon begin to suspect that these two seemingly separate cases must in fact be connected. How and why, however, remain maddeningly unclear.

What Bourgo crafts brilliantly is a dual narrative: one thread a gripping thriller involving international cybercrime, the other a more spiritual, metaphysical journey. Subtle, well-timed twists draw both narrative strands together, leading to a satisfying and well-earned conclusion for all involved—police and protagonists alike.

A highly enjoyable read, and I have no hesitation in giving it five stars.

June V. Bourgo was born and educated in Montreal, Quebec. She and her artist/writer husband, Dennis live on Vancouver Island. The island sits off the western coast of British Columbia. Between them, they have three adult children and nine grandchildren. June's writing is inspired by the natural beauty of the landscape and the Salish Sea that surround her home.

 Her writing began with magazine articles for a single-parenting magazine, and writing historical copy. Her love of novel writing grew from there. Again, the author's writing style follows a suspense/thriller adventure with a touch of the Supernatural.
