Secrets of the Home Front: Goole

The Stakes couldn’t be higher.

In August 1939, as relations between Germany and Britain head rapidly towards war, the German equestrian team were hosted by the Royal British Legion as they travelled to Dublin via Goole.

A year later, as invasion fever grips the country, a body is found by the canal. Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Allen has no shortage of suspects. Nazi spies, communist agitators, escaped POWs or someone closer to home.

But it’s not just the murder occupying Daniel. He is still working on a secret case from over 20 years ago, one that could affect his marriage.

Secrets of the Home Front: Goole, by Carole McEntee-Taylor, is an historical military fiction and crime thriller, which takes us back to 1939, just before the German invasion, and sets the theatrical setting for a true spy novel, crime thriller and mystery. Not to tip any cards, but essentially two agents of the Nazi party are dispatched to England to infiltrate and prepare for the invasion which Hitler plans. The story is filled with intrigue, and challenges British law enforcement to get to the bottom of who is behind the blood trail; is it just murder, is it a Communist plot, or worse, as the war breaks out, is it the Nazis? You will just have to read to the very end to find out what happens in this convoluted and interesting story - one where the author animates and gives life to a time in history which could have gone entirely a different direction.
