Writers Inspiring Change feature review: The Do Over

Updated: Mar 20, 2023

The Do Over, by Mark Gillespie, is a remarkably insightful read. Phil Collier, a 55 year-old attorney is on the cusp of death when something odd happens and he suddenly finds himself in another dimension, a place between life and death, one where Phil soon discovers that he is being given a choice; to either forgo his life and pass on to death, or take the opportunity to inspect and change three things in his life and live on. The Do Over does not read like a paranormal or abstract story, because in so many ways, it touches the reader ponderously as Phil examines his life, the decisions he made, the roads he took and the mistakes he made. It raises the question, if you had three things in your life that you could change, what would they be, and would you change them – would you start over instead of letting death take you? It is interesting to see that as death’s inevitability faces him, Phil is forced to look closer at what really matters most in his life and to this end, what his final decision will be. A worthwhile read.
